What is Google Wallet and Google Pay?

Google Wallet is a digital wallet that allows you to securely store your eligible Card Services credit cards on a compatible smartwatch or AndroidTM device. Google Wallet gives you fast, secure access to your eligible Card Services credit cards so you can tap to pay everywhere Google Pay is accepted, with just your phone.

Google Pay is an easy and secure way to pay using your AndroidTM phone or compatible smartwatch. Once you've completed the setup process, you'll be able to use Google Pay where contactless payments are available, or where the Google Pay logo appears online.

What Cards are eligible to enrol for Google Pay?

Currently Google Pay is enabled on all Card Services credit cards. If you are unsure or have any problems enrolling these cards, please contact us by visiting www.cardservicesdirect.com.au/contactus.

Google Pay is not available for any Diners Club related Products (Diners Proprietary, Linked Diners Club Card, or Diners Companion Mastercard).

How do I set up Google Pay and enrol my Card?

To set up your Card Services credit card with Google Pay, just add it to Google Wallet and set it as your default:

  1. Open Google Wallet or download it on Google Play.
  2. Tap ‘Add to Wallet' and follow the instructions.
  3. Verify your card if needed. Then you're all set!

Troubleshooting:

  1. Confirm you are connected to the internet.
  2. Check your device eligibility.
  3. Check your card eligibility.
  4. Check the current status of your credit card before enrolling – e.g. if there is a block on your card because of late payment or you've reported it lost or stolen. In these cases the card cannot be enrolled.
  5. Ensure you have set up a screen lock before downloading Google Pay. There is some helpful information on Set screen lock on an Android device - Android Help (google.com). However, you need to follow your device manufacturer's instructions or call the device manufacturer's help centre for further assistance.
  6. Please note your card is not ready for use in Google Pay until you verify your identity and card.
  7. If you have another digital wallet selected as the default contactless payment method on your Android device or smartwatch, you may need to select Google Pay as your default method of contactless payment on your Android device or smartwatch. Use your Android device or smartwatch's settings to select your default contactless payment method.
  8. The maximum number of devices a card can be provisioned in may be limited from time to time.

How to make your Card Services credit card your Google Wallet?

  1. Once you've successfully added your card to Google Pay, select your Card Services credit card from the Google Pay home screen.
  2. Select ‘details' at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select ‘Make default for contactless'.
  4. You're all set!

Note that you can enrol more than one eligible credit card with Google Pay. Only one card can be set to “default” in Google Pay at one point in time. The card that you have selected to “default” within Google Pay will be used when you transact using a contactless terminal. For further information, refer to the Google Pay FAQs.

How to pay using your Card Services credit card in store?

  1. Unlock your phone, if required.
  2. Hold it near the terminal.
  3. You may be prompted to log into your device.
  4. If prompted by the payment terminal for a PIN code, enter the PIN for your credit card or debit card (not your Android or smartwatch device code).
  5. Look for the check mark to confirm the payment is complete.

Note: If your Android device or smartwatch has not connected to a cellular or wireless internet connection for a prolonged period of time, Google Pay may not work and there may be a delay in time before Google Pay works once a connection has been re-established.

Where and how to pay using your Card Services credit card on apps and websites?

  1. When you're ready to pay, look for the Google Pay button at checkout.
  2. Choose Google Pay as your payment method or tap the ‘Pay with Google Pay' button

  3. If asked, choose a payment method and enter your shipping address.
  4. Confirm your order.

Do I need to pay to use Google Pay OR Google Wallet?

No, the Google Pay services has no specific fee and your transactions are processed the same way as when using your physical card.

Will I continue to receive the same benefits and rewards when paying with Google Pay?

Yes, you will continue to receive all the same benefits and rewards of the Card Services credit card when you pay with Google Pay.

Can Additional Card Holders register their Card for Google Pay?

  1. Additional cardholders may enrol their own card with Google Pay.
  2. An additional cardholder can set up and use Google Pay, before or after the primary cardholder enrolled and even if Google Pay is not used by the primary cardholder.
  3. The primary cardholder will only be able to remove an additional cardholder's access to Google Pay by removing the additional cardholder from the account altogether. What happens if my phone is lost or stolen?

No one can use your Android device or smartwatch to make payments unless you've entered, or they have your chosen screen lock method (device code, pattern, password or biometrics e.g. fingerprint). No one will be able to access your personal banking details as they are not stored on the device.

If you lose your Android device or smartwatch, you can still make contactless transactions using your physical credit card.

If you misplace or lose your Android device or smartwatch, you can log in with your Google account to remove your card(s) in Google Pay. If you delete the card, you will need to re-enrol it. For further information, please refer to the Google Pay FAQs.

A cardholder removing their Google Pay service will not affect any other cardholder's use of Google Pay.

What happens if there are fraudulent transactions?

The Android device or smartwatch is protected by your chosen screen lock method (device code, pattern, password or fingerprint). This needs to be entered to enable the Android device or smartwatch to be used to make transactions.

If you are giving your device to someone else, you'll need to factory reset it to erase apps and all personal data from the device. You may be liable for any transactions not made by you if you shared your Android device or smartwatch.

How do I reverse or dispute a transaction?

The process is the same as any other credit card transaction refund or reversal. First speak to the merchant, as each merchant's return policy does vary.

How do I remove my Card from Google Wallet?

You can remove a card from the Google Pay service by using the Google Pay app. With help removing cards, refer to the Google Pay FAQs.

As a primary cardholder, you will only be able to remove an additional cardholder's access to Google Pay by removing the cardholder from your account altogether.

Who do I talk to for help?

The Customer Service Team will help you if you have any issues when enrolling your Card into Google Pay or have transaction queries. However, all enquiries related to Google Pay need to be directed to Google. Please refer to the Google Pay FAQs for questions about:

  2. setting up multiple devices to use Google Pay.
  3. accidentally deleting your Google Pay app.
  4. compatible devices and factory resets.
